Anyone can file a suit against anyone else for absolutely anything they want to. This is why there are so many frivolous lawsuits clogging our court system today. However, you do have protection in place.
Every state has passed what are known as “Good Samaritan Laws” to protect you from a lawsuit being successful for attempting to render emergency care to someone in an emergency.
As long as in good faith, you rendered emergency care to a person that you believed to be in a life or death emergency and you believed that care should not be postponed and you were not expecting any form of payment in return, you are protected.

When a person goes into cardiac arrest or SCA, their heart goes into a quivering in a chaotic rhythm called Ventricular Fibrillation or "V-Fib" and is no longer able to pump oxygen-rich blood throughout their bodies. Without this oxygen-rich blood supply the bodies organs starts to die. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR is used to temporarily keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and heart to keep these two vital organs alive until the heart regains a normal heart beat.
The only way to stop a heart from fibrillating is to use a defibrillator which can deliver a small electrical shock to the heart to temporarily bring the heart to a stop in hopes that when it starts back up it will be in a normal rhythm and be able to once again pump blood throughout the body. CPR alone will not save anyone suffering from SCA, but is merely a temporary measure to "buy time" until an Automated External Defibrillator or AED is available to deliver an electrical shock to the heart in an attempt to restore it to a normal heart rhythm.
Use of an AED on a person suffering from V-Fib is absolutely vital and is the only hope to return the heart to a normal rhythm.
This is a common question that is difficult to answer until we know which class you are needing. In general First Aid and CPR classes are approximately 4 hours each, and a combined First Aid & CPR class would be approximately 8 hours long. The approximate course lengths for all of our courses are listed on the Course Price List. Successful completion is based on achievement of the core learning objectives and skills demonstration rather than a prescribed instruction time. Actual times may vary.
Certification cards are handed out when the class is completed for most classes taken in our Pearl City Training Facility. For classes that were conducted at any location other than our office the cards will be printed and mailed to you, generally within 5 Business Days.
If the class you completed offered Digital Certification Cards as the card delivery option then the Digital Certification Cards will be received in your email generally before you get home from taking the class.
This is a question that we hear almost everyday, but we cannot give you a straightforward answer on the cost of the class until we know exactly which class you are needing, and if you are coming to our Training Center for the class or you need an instructor to come to you. We offer approximately 40 different courses from several different national provider organizations, so we need to narrow down the list of what you are needing a little before we can give you an accurate price. For instance a First Aid class could range anywhere from $30 to $200 depending on which type of first aid class you are talking about.
We have created a Course Comparison Chart which lists our available courses, and their differences. We have also created a Course Price List which will give you pricing for Classroom Courses in our Training Center, Onsite Training at your location, and Blended Learning online courses if they are available.
Basically the training for the American Heart Association classes and classes from the American Safety & Health Institute, Emergency Care & Safety Institute, EMS Safety Services and the other organizations that we offer training for are the same. Training from all of these organizations follow the same standards and guidelines. It basically comes down to which brand name you want on the card.
Some employers require American Heart Association certification cards, especially healthcare industries in Hawaii, while most other employers in Hawaii outside of healthcare will accept the American Safety & Health Institute certifications or certifications from other nationally recognized training organizations that we provide training for.
If your employer does not specify which training organization your certification card needs to be from (which most do not), then it basically comes down to preference. Like cola, you have both Coke and Pepsi, they are basically the same thing, yet some prefer Coke while others prefer Pepsi. Some prefer AHA, while others prefer ASHI or ECSI.
To make sure, be sure to verify which certification your employer will accept before taking a class.
